The legislation to enact the requirement for Front of Package Nutrition Symbols was enacted in July of 2022, and will be enforced starting in January of 2026. All products that contain ‘high amounts’ of saturated fats, sugars and sodium, measured by Reference Amount on the Nutrition Facts panel must display this symbol. These nutrients were selected as being of concern to public health and will permit consumers to readily identify foods which may contribute to health concerns.

How to use the Front Of Package Symbol Generator
The Front of Page Nutrition Symbol (FOP NS) generator uses the information from your Nutrition Facts Panel and the Canadian Reference Amounts to calculate whether your food should be labelled as being “High in” three different nutrients: Saturated Fats, Sugars, and Sodium.
The Reference amount is important to permit all foods of a similar nature to be compared fairly and circumvent the prevention of labelling “High-in” nutrients due to an understated serving size. The tool actually recalculates the nutrients on the basis of the Reference Amounts.
